Welcome to the Spring Cove School District Food and Nutrition Services.
With the passage of the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act, there are many changes in the National School Lunch Program. One of the major provisions is that a student must take a serving of a fruit or a vegetable to qualify for a reimbursable lunch and breakfast. While we are still an offer vs. serve district, the refusal of either a fruit or vegetable will now result in a student being charged a la carte pricing for his or her lunch. Please talk to your child(ren) about the importance of choosing a fruit or vegetable everyday. There will be a wide selection of fresh and cooked vegetables available every day beyond those that are printed on the menu. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call or email.
We recognize that proper nutrition and physical activity contribute to student performance by improving student alertness, social, emotional and physical wellbeing. Our Wellness Policy encourages the school community to participate and model positive dietary and lifestyle practices.
The school menus are planned by a Registered Dietitian to reflect the Dietary Guidelines for Americans
and the new United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) myPlate. http://www.choosemyplate.gov/
We offer Breakfast and Lunch at each of our schools, which include a variety of: main entrees, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and a variety of milk selections.
We participate in the National School Lunch Program
, which is regulated by the United States Departemnt of Agriculture (USDA) and implemented by The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).
We use computerized nutrient analysis to meet the standards for specific age/grade groups. Our meals meet one third of the RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowances) of calcium, protein, iron, vitamin A and vitam C for specific age groups.
We encourage our customers' involvement in the planning of our meals. Please contact one of the managers if you have comments, ideas, or suggestions.
We look forward to serving you.
